There have been quiet staff cuts at individual teams as well .. wonder if the league is starting to posture/cry poor in advance of CBA talks with the union.

A lot of valid points being made about the CBA, PR... But basically this is just a cold bottom-line mentality at play. Revenue is up over last year, but like any business they made projections (which can be ridiculously arbitrary when you take them out of the context of a recession, because the league is still making a ton of money), didn't reach their magic $7 billion + number and decided they have to scale back $50 million and do it, in part, with people's jobs. $50 million is a boatload of money, but in the ballpark the NFL is playing, it honestly doesn't amount to that much. The party they throw for their sponsors and licensees (the only thing they give them, because they are in the business of taking, not giving) at the Super Bowl each year has to cost a couple of mil (ballpark guess). So on the one hand, there are some people at 280 Park who don't see this as anything major--although, when they make one penny less than they think they should have made it is always major. But to the 150 people who will be without work, it's going to be pretty real.
