As big a fan of the esteemed Dr. Will as I am, I can't imagine that was a barn-burner.

Not sure. What do you think?

I'm guessing it would have run regardless. Her 50th birthday, and the party are reason enough for it, and her press operation has clearly been pitching articles of this type.

The timing of the announcement of her extended Hawaii stay was odd. I don't know if the WH just didn't want to announce it in advance, if the the President surprised her with the additional week as part of her Christmas/birthday gift, or if she refused to board the plane back to D.C.

But, the timing did help to lead to rumors.

I'll say one thing, from experience. If their marriage is on the rocks, then a lot of their close aides know it, and they're all freaking out about it hitting the press in a real way.

I should think that by the time you get to the New York Times you should know that "such as" is the proper and "like" is incorrect.

Always painful to watch middle aged professional women out for
girls night cackling into their chardonnays.

The New York Times, drafting off of the Enquirer's heat.

I saw it as a complete puff piece. "First Lady turning 50" If the president and the first lady are throwing a birthday party and notable celebrities are going to be there, I have no problem with places treating it like news.
