I know sometimes the next-day starter gets sent ahead to the next city if it's a getaway night game because they want him to get a full night's rest and not be flying at 2 a.m., but the Mets were at home.

I've been trying to think of other examples of an athlete who was the toast of a big city and pissed it away in this manner.

Doc Gooden won a Cy Young and a World Series before his downfall.

Harvey loved the Dark Knight Batman tabloid stuff when he was on top of the world. But he never really stands up and takes the heat in rough times. His "apology" was laughable.

Sports memories are short. If he pitches well then rest of this year and part of next, much will be forgotten.

But he's cost himself a lot of future money.

One thing is for sure. The Mets control him through 2018. If he pitches well, he'll be traded before then. The Mets are sick of him.

And, of course, he'll be great for his next team and win a World Series and Cy Young. It's a Mets thing.

Does anyone think Harvey finally realized the state of his career when Lima dumped him?

Seemed like a good excuse to get loaded, play golf and call in sick to work.

Sounds like he botched the last bit, which was part of the problem.

    Cite?

I think this is the Mets fan complex. I doubt it happens to them more than anyone else.

I'm not sure about that specific scenario, but the organization has issues, especially when it comes to the medical staff.

Oh, it's 100 percent a Mets fan complex.
