"The least respectable job in global journalism"?

Michael Lewis' 2011 book, Boomerang, deals with the root causes of the world financial meltdown in 2008 and the effect that event has had in Iceland, Greece, Ireland and Germany. It is a short book and an interesting read...

One of the "characters" involved in the events that led up to the collapse of the "Celtic Tiger" in Ireland was a former prime minister there, Bertie Ahern. Lewis does not have much good to say about Ahern including this mention:

"Now Ahern is just another Irish backbencher with a hangdog slouch and a face mottled by broken capillaries. To fill the empty hours he's taken a second job writing a sports column for the Rupert Murdoch Sunday tabloid News of the World which just might be the least respectable job in global journalism."

That particular tabloid is gone from the scene but I wonder if folks here would consider being a sports columnist for that paper to have been "the least respectable job in global journalism."

Sports always gets less respect than other fields of journalism, and News of the World was undoubtedly the least respectable publication in all the world, so it sounds like the job would be on the short list at least.

    Just so.

An "editor" would have pointed that out, right?

Indeed it should count. And that is truly a job worthy of disrespect...
