Oh yeah, that's why he blasted North Carolina repeatedly during the Doherty era, huh? He wrote stuff about the UNC basketball program during the Doherty fiasco that nobody in the mainstream media wrote. Certainly a "Carolina homer" wouldn't have written it.

It's not just Duke. He wrote a scathing review of Virginia coach Dave Leitao's interaction with his players during the ACC tournament.

Is there a league anywhere that has the self-importance of basketball in the ACC? OK, there's the SEC in football, but that's about it. Both are dying for somebody to grind up their sacred cows. While this is far from high-end journalism, it's a tasty slice of reality when compared with ESPN's knob-slobbing.

Yeah, it's almost as if three of the last six national champions are from the ACC and six of the last 16. Where does this stuff come?

Arrogance. SEC's nearly on par with four champs in the past 13 years.

ACC isn't light years ahead of everyone. In fact, I would argue the ACC is a shell of what it used to be, thanks to expansion. Among seven teams to get bids, only the Tar Heels survived the first four days. Not that great.

It's the long running traditions that give the ACC its arrogance, and allows its legacy to sustain fairly well.

Expansion has helped to kill off the tradition, and has certainly diminished it. Once, you thought of college basketball greatness when you heard the letters ACC. Now, it's just a big ole conference that wants you to eat more chikin.

Nobody is suggesting the ACC (in basketball) or the SEC (in football) don't have the right to swagger a bit. They're good, for sure. It's that whole "insufferable prick" thing that is hard to tolerate and that this piece kind of sheds light on.
