Kobe Bryant, Shawne Merriman and Albert Pujols all decided that playing was more important than having surgery.
If in the same situation at your present gig, would you do like they did, opting to work in pain?

And as soon as I'm making that kind of money, I might opt to type through the pain. Until then? No.

Please, we're talking about journalists. We could all do our jobs with two broken legs. And many do them with half a brain. :D

Know of a boss who hissed at a staffer because the staffer had his spinal surgery while his beat was in season.

Guy in my shop put the work ahead of his health and it damned near killed him.

And, in the process, made work more difficult for everyone else.

    No heroes, please.

I wouldn't brag about it if I were you.

Come on, with a board full of people who take themselves way too seriously, ya gotta have a sense of humor.

I was chuckling to myself as I typed that.

I had a life-threatening situation where I had no choice but to go under the knife. I went for surgery.

No job on Earth is worth risking life for it. The games will be there when you get back. Or even if you don't make it through.

I thought this thread was going to be about the knife business. Carry on.

I thought this thread was going to be about Picklejuice again.

She wanted to go from, what--selling knives to the Dolphins' beat writer?
