Um, I'll come right out and say it. It's a pretty uncontroversial assertion.

You know, you guys really should decide why the rich need tax breaks. Is it because they deserve to keep their *snicker* hard-earned money? Or is it because without massive tax breaks, they won't deign to "create" any jobs for us low-life commoners?

    Which is it?

They have the same right to keep their money as anyone else. They just have to pay more for it.

And having more money has, right or wrong, equaled more rights in this country. Campaign money for example. More money equals more free speech. If they want more rights, they can pay more to the government to preserve their special rights.

The same percentage would have a vastly different impact on everyone. That's inherently unfair.

Yeah. 10 percent of 30K means someone may have to have their heat turned off. 10 percent of $3 million means someone has to forgo their second yacht.

It's not really what "fair" means at all, actually.

If we're going that route, why even use percentages at all? Everyone just pays the same amount.

That's right. If you use percentages, the rich have to pay more. That's not fair.

How much of other people's money do you think you're entitled to?

When in doubt, revert to pointless ad hominem attacks.

Society is entitled to as much of it as society needs to "promote the general welfare." Because without society, they wouldn't have any of it. Nobody's going out into the uncharted woods and building a fortune from scratch these days.
