So much of this depends on whether the jerk is a one-timer, or chronic.

    Once that's determined, conscience/guide.

A call to the landlord is the way to go.

Although there's plenty of fun to be had with a bottle of Elmer's glue and a saucepan half-full of water that was just used to cook pasta. Mix the two in the saucepan. Throw in a raw egg, if you like. Then, lovingly take the pages of a select magazine- I suggest B-list porno- and swish the pages around in the watery mix a bit before affixing them to his car. If you're really talented, you can make a collage. Permanance, my friends.

Sigh. But yeah, just call the landlord. As fun as it is to joke about vigilante vengeance, it's best to play by the rules when dealing with anything related to one's home. Peace of mind in one's home is a priceless thing.

Maybe it was an innocent mistake. Forget about it unless this becomes a regular problem. Get on with your lives.

A few years ago we got 10 inches of snow so it was a bitch to dig the car out. We have one car driveways with four spots in front of our townhome. The neighbor next door parks in the same spot every single day for two years. The day I dig out my car, he somehow gets his car out, with minimal digging and parks in the spot I cleared out.

I parked my car behind his, blocked him in and forced him to ask me to move. He never parked in that spot again.

    Tow the fucker.

Agreed that getting on with life is the best choice here, but leaving an assholish note on someone's door isn't an "innocent mistake."

Call the HOA to see if they have a towing company under contract.

Once you have that number in hand, call them the second he/she parks in your space.

Do not confront because you might know where he lives, but he knows where you live. [/Goodfellas]

Some states have a "castle law." Does that apply to parking spaces?

I sit on the HOA of a subdivision that I rent a townhome to a few teachers.

The HOA owns the parking lot and the spaces. You own the townhome, but the HOA owns the blacktop.

We actually took away parking spaces from people who had become deadbeats in their dues. We painted no parking on the spaces in front of their homes and instructed a towing company to tow any vehicle in the space.

Amazingly, we had about $10,000 in delinquent dues paid in about two months.

If you'll pay the rental fee, I'm qualified to drive it ...

Handles 22,000+ pounds. Have 'em equip it with the eight-foot forks when you fill out the rental form.

And where do you want dude's car? :D
