Our Man In Bristol is in the news again.

ESPN executive editor John Walsh was asked in a University of Maryland classroom today about Deadspin writer John Koblin’s feud with ESPN’s Lynne Hoppes. “Says it’s over a girlfriend dispute,” tweeted the student who asked the question. Another tweet: “Walsh says Hoppes stole Koblin’s gf. Koblin’s response: 'My boyfriend @bennettmadison would be surprised to hear this.' ”

Hoppes didn't even do anything new. Call it a drive-by splattering.

Rick Reilly wants everyone to know he was the first to tweet Walsh's response.

This story actually is more about John Walsh now. It's funny stuff.

It must be in the employee handbook: "Just make stuff up when you need it."

    Isn't Hoppes married?

If so, in addition to closeting a gay man, Walsh could have caused some consternation in the Hoppes household.

In Walsh's defense, maybe Hoppes stole Koblin's girlfriend and married her, which drove Koblin to turn gay...

    Good grief.

I can't wait for the ESPN ombudsman to weigh in on this!

You might have to wait a while. Poynter's last entry was a month ago and there has been no announcement on a new one.
Topic A for the new one should be sourcing. They've become a national joke.
It's funny, if they just focused on the no BS side of ESPN, admit that PTI, the radio stuff, and First Take is a wasteland and just focused on SportsCenter and event coverage I'd be happy.

And their ratings would slip drastically.

Among those of us who understand proper sourcing and attribution, and take it seriously. But most of dumbass America watching PTI and four SportsCenter episodes a day or reading online doesn't care who sources what or who and where.
