I'd take him on my team in a nanosecond. The money is a bargain in this day and age.

Sure, Dick. Tell us the bright side of a 1-11 pitcher being worth $2 mill.

Is a 4.04 ERA that bad these days?

    He's not a "1-11 pitcher."

He basically had the same season he did the year before.

He was 1-9 with a 3.48 ERA when his team scored 0-2 runs. That was in 13 of his 21 starts. That is unreal.

I like hockey's walk-away rule -- if a team doesn't like the arbitration award, it can reject it and the player becomes a free agent.

The Pirates thought he was worth $1.4 mil. That was their offer.

The guy pitched 108 innings in 21 starts, barely over 5 IP per start. Less than 2-1 K/BB ratio (79/44). 1.385 WHIP.
    $1.4 mill was too high

I'm printing and keeping this post, just to prove it really happened :)

Seems to me a 4 ERA is bad any day. Especially in the NL.

Do that 30-40 years ago and your next contract was for selling used Cutlasses and Monte Carlos.

But it isn't 30 or 40 years ago.

The NL league average ERA was 4.02 last season.

What is the league average? This is not 30 to 40 years ago
