    It's a hard job. Of course there's no excuse for even "mild" cases of abuse/neglect, to say nothing of the barbarism discussed above. But it's a hard, shitty, low-paying job. The employees and the residents alike are treated like shit. My memories of that time include lots of ramen noodles and cheap coffee. I still have scar on my arm from where I was bit during my second week on the job. The more violent retarded guys often attacked staff who were just out of the training program, since newbies did not meet force with force...unlike many of the seasoned, uh, veterans.
