Four was the norm for steam, more could be present depending on the job. There could also be a utility brakeman present, for instance, if a lot of switches needed to be manually thrown and hand signals passed, say, on a yard ladder. EDIT: Cabooses were 99% eliminated by federal decree 40+ years ago.

    In diesel cab
    1. Engineer
    2. Fireman
    3. Head-end Brakeman (sometimes)

    In caboose
    4. Conductor (train boss)
    5. Brakeman

I have less than zero experience driving a train, but it sure seems to me that if you have a hundred cars and 10s of thousands of tons barreling along, that's an operation that requires multiple people.

Tell that to the hedge funds that control the RRs.

Red Lobster already famously did this in the 1990s with AYCE crab.

Makes me think this is either self-sabotage or a weird PR stunt.

I haven't eaten at a Red Lobster in more than 20 years. I'm sure the look on my face when some tourist asks if there is a Red Lobster on the island is priceless.

Once cheddar bay biscuit mix became available in the supermarket, its raison d’être disappeared.
