    Rosie,

These people have pretty good generators. Maybe you already know them

Generator is an excellent idea, as are the flashlights that do not require batteries. There's the wind-up kind and the kind that have a magnet inside and you shake them to build up a charge. If I lived in Minnesota, I'd buy those hand and foot warmers hunters use by the case and keep them for situations like this.

There's only one downside of winter?

Naw, I'm with Rosie. I like winter for the most part ... until the temp drops below 0. I will never be a member of SportsJournalists.com International Falls.

C'mon down south, Rosie. I don't turn the heater on till the inside temp gets below 60.

The downside is, as soon as March hits, you'll be cranking the AC to 11 (like me ... I am very warm-natured. I secretly yearn for San Diego.)

Good to hear everyone came out with no frostbite and such, Rosie.

The potential positive is I hope this episode will further your cause for a generator. If fearing for personal safety isn't an incentive, what else will be?

I would've started my car and sat in it with the heat on intermittently (did I spell that right?)

Not in the garage, of course.

My car wouldn't start yesterday morning because of the cold.

Hands-up everybody that has a block heater for their car.

Not long after I made my first post on this thread I walked out of the living room toward my bedroom. Heard water pouring down through the ceiling.

Yup, a burst pipe. Major damage.

    Fuck fuckety fuck fuck fuck.

I'd say so. I don't see winter as having an upside. Ever.

I'm with you guys. I don't mind driving in the snow, but winter sucks.

A few years ago acouple I know went off to the Caribbean for a week's vacation in January.

They came back, opened up their front door and about three feet of water came rushing out.

The pipes had burst shortly after they left and the water ran for a week .

    Just like having a fire.

    Feel better, OT? :)
