    I've always liked Lugnuts' daffodils.

Would enjoy a link and will keep it in the vault.

Is your ID related to the Christmas Story scene?

Joining this party a bit late, but also would love to see your work.

I promise to provide a nice critique -- unless you use some of the expressions (cagers, thinclads, charity tosses and a team "bombing" its opponent or "exploding/erupting" offensively) that make it to my desk on a regular basis.

Awwww man, I love "erupt"!!! I use it maybe once or twice a year. No good????

Once or twice a year is within the statute of limitations (especially if covering a hot-tempered coach who really does "erupt" from time to time). It's like my philosophy as a headline writer and headline-ese -- I allow myself occasional "irks" and "mulls" but don't allow them to become habit-forming.

Totally get where you're coming from. I can't stand "Coach" leads. I know several writers that go that direction with 90 percent of the stories they write. They can't think of anything to write other than what the coach tells them. However, I allow myself to use a "Coach" lead twice a year ... and I take advantage of this allowance when the story is shit and I've got no angle or clue what to write. LOL

My first article was a lot shorter, I didn't know where to put my byline and the editor said, "Is that it?"
