The Day I Became a Sportswriter

I've been posting on this website for 15+ years.

You people know me as a TV person. I do video, yes. Still do.

I am a sports journalist, and I always have been. Y'all know that.

But I've never had a piece of writing published. Like an article. A story.

    Until yesterday.

I had a weird thing happen last summer... which led me to getting off my ass and pursuing this...

It took me several months of waving my hands, some spec writing, begging ...

Over the weekend I swung hard at a spec story on Rafael Nadal. Put everything I had into it for 48 hours.

    Somebody took it !!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty damn proud of it.

So now I'm wondering if this is the time for me to celebrate by outing myself and posting it here.

Somebody hold my hand and talk me into this or out of it.

    Good idea or no ?

I don't think you post anything that your real ID would be embarrassed by or would get you in trouble with your bosses. If you post responsibly as you do, people knowing who you are should not matter. The X factor: How will your employers feel about it? We have some posters who are quite responsible with their posting but work to remain anonymous because their employer frowns on this kind of thing.

If you go back through my posting history I'm sure there's something I'm not proud of.

A flamewar with Mizzougrad circa 2003...

The great "RBI vs RBIs" debate of '05.

When I told heyabbott to F off ....

    Hmmmmm....
