The Daily Herald, a 7,500 circulation daily newspaper in Roanoke Rapids, NC is looking for a creative sports journalist to take the lead in our sports coverage. Our ideal candidate is a team player who knows how to cover sports and has the ability to build relationships with coaches, athletic directors and players in the communities we serve. The successful applicant must be a strong writer and photographer and be familiar with a broad range of prep and youth sports. You must be able to write game stories as well as features, paginate sports pages, be a stickler for accuracy and well versed in the use of Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media. Qualifications include a college degree and sports writing experience as well as experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) in a Apple Mac environment. This position often requires work on evenings and weekends. This is a full time position and as part of Wick Communications, we offer a strong package of pay and benefits, including medical, dental and 401(k) and other work perks such as monthly breakfasts and flexible vacations. See our web site at www.rrdailyherald.com and learn about our parent company at www.wickcommunications.com. We are an equal opportunity employer. Please e-mail your cover letter, resume and salary requirements as well as samples or a link to your online portfolio to Matt Lindberg, Managing Editor, at mlindberg@rrdailyherald.com.

Not real close to anything. About 90 miles from both Raleigh and Richmond. Two hours to Virginia Beach. Since it's a Wick paper, pay couldn't be very high.
