The cycle: Am I alone in this opinion?

Getting the triple is the oddity of a cycle.

Liberals have speed.

 

Right. Liberals don't believe in having big guns or excessive power, so their homer numbers are down.

 

Liberals bat leadoff. Conservatives bat cleanup.

 

I too fall in the "statistical curiosity" camp. A player with two homers and a double has the same number of total bases as someone who hits for the cycle.

 

What's the record for most triples in a single game?

 

Most Triples: (4) by Bill Joyce of the New York Giants on May 19, 1897.

 

Which is more of a statistical oddity than hitting for the cycle.

 

Back when guys routinely hit 15 a year.
