If someone wants to give the real dietary breakdown of why hamburgers are awful for you, I'm down with it. But the whole "look at how it looks the same after a year!" thing doesn't particularly bother me. That's just a sensationalist anecdote.

I opened this wondering who in the world was surviving by eating coffee beans.

The amount of anger McDonalds and fast food generate is hilarious. Great. You don't think it's food. Please tell me that in every thread ever about fast food.

This seems as good a time as any to ask ...

What the hell ever happened to Grimace?

Question for you meat experts -- where would you be more likely to encounter low-quality, unsafe beef? A) McDonald's; or B) any grocery store you pick

The only difference between a McDouble and a Big Mac is the special sauce, lettuce, and the bread in the middle.

The McDouble is $1, and the Big Mac is $3.99 in a lot of places.

The fat grams are the worst part of fast food.

Everything, even the salads, is loaded with fat grams.

Fat is not the enemy. Carbs are the enemy.

In my journey to lose (so far) about 35 pounds by following Gary Taubes' advice in "Why We Get Fat," I have found a way to eat something filling at every fast food stop. At McD's I buy a McDouble and eat everything that's not the bun. Not a bad late-night snack at all.

    From Repo Man:

    J. Frank Parnell: Have you any machines?

Kevin: You don't want to eat from a machine. Look, there's a nice Del Taco across the street. They've got enchiritos and everything.

(note: Enchirito is actually a trademarked product of Taco Bell)

    J. Frank Parnell: But I do want to eat from a machine. Vended food contains all the necessary nutrients for survival. Taste damn good too, by golly. And plus, on any given evening, the machine that last night gave you cheetos might dispense instead... Doritos. Yohos. Oreos. Tosquitos (tostitos?). Or Lorna Doones.

Kevin: Lorna Doones? I love Lorna Doones. (All we got left is Ding Dongs).
