Yeah, hard pass on PBR's 'craft' efforts. If I'm drinking an IPA, it's going to be local -- one exception, though: That Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing is really, really good.

It's sad to drive past the old Oly brewery on I-5 in Tumwater and remember that decent low-cost beer, at one point the Coors of the West Coast, used to be brewed there. Kind of like going by the old Rainier brewery on I-5 in Seattle, or to the old Weinhard's brewery location in PDX, where Henry's used to be brewed. An awfully good affordable beer.

Contract brewing may have preserved the brand name, but not the beer.

But the Olympia cans told me "It's the water."

Benjamin Braddock has a can of Oly with him in the pool in the opening scene of "The Graduate." Early product placement.

When I covered Northern Arizona hoops, the athletic trainer for the basketball team loved the trip to Eastern Washington, because he could get his "Vitamin R"

my father got on a rainier kick in the early 1990s. I assumed it was because cheaper than Koch’s Golden Anniversary.

Koch's, the pride of Dunkirk. They had a holiday ale that was awful.

When do we start a shitty seltzer thread?

    Oh wait, it’s all shitty.

How did Natty Light beat these guys to the punch?

I think the leading hard seltzer is from Boston Beer Co. (Sam Adams). It's the best part of the company's business right now.

As an East Coaster with a racing addiction, I was more familiar with Olympia for Big Oly rather than actual beer.
