As someone mentioned earlier, it was a 24/7 grind that most of those guys did not exactly "enjoy."
On every road trip, guys would come back from the ballpark and check the hotel bar to see how drunk Billy was and whether he had started or was on the verge of starting a fight with somebody.
And then there was always the possibility of a 9 a.m. wake-up call from George to rant about something. Or the 9 a.m. wakeup call from an editor because after you went to sleep, Billy did, indeed, get into a fight in the bar.

    It was insanity.

I spoke to Moss yesterday and told him how much I enjoyed it, but if he indeed didn't want to write anymore he may have blown it because it was a better read than anything that has been in the Ledger in months. He said it was his first byline in 12 years. (And, by the way, he is a outstanding desk man).

Through the 80s and early 90s, the Ledger had the best Yanks/Mets beat combo in the NY market.

    About time you acknowledged it.

Their back-up guy wasn't bad, either.

We'll let the board try to guess who that backup was.

Wasn't it the guy who helped Henry Chadwick invent the box score?
