Petty arguments are like dog shit. If you keep stirring them up, they'll always stink. If you leave it alone, eventually it will dry up and go away.

The first is from the Godfather and the third is the Simpsons. I'm only not sure about the second one.

I was told by my father that the key to being a reporter was good listening, much more so than good asking.

I was told by a dear friend and fellow broadcaster that if you make a mistake, treat it like a dead animal on the side of the road. You see it, you acknowledge it, you are disgusted by it... then you keep right on driving. Don't get stuck on it. It was meant as advice for what to do if you fuck up during a live shot... But I have found it applies really well to life in general.

Second one also from The Godfather. It's what Fabrizio tells Michael when he first sees Apollonia.

Best advice I've given: About 11-12 years ago I was working as a reporter and was asked to speak to a high school journalism class. I asked the students if any of them were considering journalism as a college major and/or career.
    Several raised their hands.
    I told them, 'Reconsider.'

From my mother, regarding job hunting and house selling: "It only takes one."

From Bruce Springsteen: "Live it every day."
