Well Ace, you lost there, but maybe you won't lose with the Plain Dealer.

I hear there might be an opening there soon.

We are about to go 46 too, yet I'm not sure when our switch is coming. We currently have 8 on 6 agate style. Most papers have been 7 on 6 for a while and we are probably going to follow suit, so it shouldn't be a big issue for us.
What I hate about going 46 is that we are already getting squeezed for space regularly and I know they aren't planning on adding pages.

I've seen a few papers do the following on Sunday golf to save space. The problem is it takes even more time to go through and delete what you need to.

    Any way:

    278 (10-under), $248,365
    Jack Nicklaus.........70-69-71-68
    Arnold Palmer.........73-66-70-69
    Lee Trevino............69-72-64-73
    etc.

I think that's the best way to handle final-day golf agate in the 9- to 10-pica column width.

As far as it being time-consuming, I don't generally accept that from an agate editor. Unless the agate guy is doing three other things that night, I really think he/she has time to do some detail work on copy. And if they're just grabbing the wire material and throwing it on the page without giving some thought to formatting/presentation, they're not doing their job.

And if an SE has their agate guy doing three other things in the course of a night, he/she is not giving agate-page editing the emphasis it deserves.
