Apologies if this is a d_b or on the wrong board, but for all the bashing he and his employer get on here, Doug Ferguson is gold with me for a while.

His lede on J.B., nee John, Holmes?

    That is fantastic.

Whoever suggested to him that he change his name from John to J.B. gave him very, very good advice.

Richard Trickle apparently didn't have such a friend.

Mark Whicker may have topped Ferguson:

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Oakland Hills has been acting as belligerent as a Michigan wolverine, so the PGA 36-hole leader is the man with the biggest stick.

If he hits a winning putt, you know they'll call it the money shot.

    Fantastic.

  10. Tiger love-fest aside, Ferguson is great. Easily the best AP writer out there.

Two things have become apparent about Fergie this year: 1. His man-crush on Tiger has reached epic status and 2. He, for some reason, hates Kenny Perry for skipping the British Open. Cry me a river, Doug.

And I'd be surprised if Fergie wrote today's lead that way on purpose. Lots of people fawn over this guy for his "great" writing, but he has way too many agendas.

If that were true, and I hope it's not, then that would be damning the man with faint praise.
