You're the second person to make that mistake. The baseball and softball state tournaments are not being moved back.

Also, this just in from TAPPS:

The TAPPS Board of Directors met in Executive session on Wednesday, April 29, to determine the TAPPS response to the Swine Flu Pandemic. After discussion and deliberation, the TAPPS Executive Board unanimously determined the following:

At this time, the TAPPS Spring Athletic Playoffs remain intact with no changes. TAPPS continues to monitor the situation and will advise member schools should changes be deemed necessary.

TAPPS is supportive of our member schools and parents. The welfare of students is best determined by parents and individual member schools. No sanction or penalty will be imposed by TAPPS should a school choose to not participate in the TAPPS playoffs in response to health concerns.

the way they're handling the state track meet is ridiculous. a high jumper who has the ability to go say 6-8, etc., might get left out of state because he only needed to go 6-0 to win district. likewise, a sprinter who pulled up late because he had the district title won could stay home despite being able to turn in a faster time had he needed to.

instead, uil should advance every district champ and runner-up to state meet and expand the semifinals and the days from 3 to 4.

As previously noted, the UIL is waffling now on its regional track decision. This is total chaos, which is what people thrive in creating nowadays.

Just interviewed a kid for a story previewing our regional track coverage. He broke his neck last July in a swimming accident, wore a halo for three months, missed his senior year of basketball, came back in February for track and qualified for regionals in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

So that was the original setup of the story. Today, this stuff comes out. He's fifth in his region in the 300. Ran a 41.08 and the fourth-place kid ran something like a 40.8 or 40.9.

So many kids will get screwed if they keep this plan.

This is the biggest problem I had with it. If you run against crappy competition and pull up at the end and breeze through the line b/c no one is pushing you, you are going to get screwed despite having no idea it could happen

I'd be real pissed about this if I was a track runner. State meet is the most important day of the season. It's not like other sports.

You know, I'm not too inclined to defend TV news on this, because it's been way over the top.

But today I was producing a live special report with the Governor and the heads of various health agencies talking about the first case in our state. While the head of the state health department was saying it's no big deal and that if people just wash their hands and cover their mouths we'll all be fine, the AP sent out an alert that the chief of the World Health Organization says "everyone in the world is at risk." So, no, it's not all the fault of the media.

Our one case here is an 8 year old kid. They immediately closed his school... despite the fact that the kid was sick more than a week ago, is fully recovered and was actually back in school before they identified his illness.

It's kind of hard to softpedal this one when the government at all levels is acting like it's the Ebola virus.

Re: Texas suspends all high school interscholastic activities

Yeah several coaches were quickly up in arms about the track thing, just for that very reason...one kid may not have to vault higher than say a 13-9 to win his district, even though he's vaulted over 16 this year. Meanwhile at other districts, three vaulters opt to go for personal bests, and the 13-9 isn't even a top 10.
Then there's sprinters who had to run their sprints against a heavy head win, or with it.

As far as the May 11 magical date, that is when the State golf and tennis start. And UIL doesn’t want to have to deal with its own headaches (the current plan keeps all the state athletic championships on the same date) , just give the regions and districts headaches.
