Here's an interesting link re: just how long-entrenched (answer: Not very) the Christmas tree tradition is:

Growing up, I always thought that. It wasn't until the White House Christmas tree was renamed a "Holiday tree" that people, IIRC, started taking offense with "holiday" as a PC replacement for "Christmas." I hadn't realized Fox had anything to do with it.

That was back when Fox thought it could hold sway with social conservatives, whose influence has greatly waned in the last five years. Nowadays it's more "How many of YOUR TAX dollars was spent on that tree?"

Don't put words in my mouth, please.
I'm a highly educated fellow well-acquainted with the history of the period.
Fart didn't just fall off the turnip truck here, bro.

Are there really turnip trucks anywhere anymore? I mean, I guess on turnip farms, but has anyone not in the turnip industry actually ever seen one?

It was used very often by Johnny Carson back in the day.
You young folks who get your civics from that preening jackass Jon Stewart wouldn't recall.

Matthew Stafford once tried to throw a football into a turnip truck, but it landed across the highway in a tomato truck.

The First Amendment says I don't have to keep it to myself.

Funny how you only care about the law when it supports what you want to do.

The First Amendment also says that others don't have to hear you.

Or, to put it another way, even if school prayer was legal, that doesn't mean that a kid can start praying out loud in the middle of a final exam, because it could be a distraction.
