    Funny how everyone was trashing the person that broke the story.

    Great, now we can look forward to a whole fresh wave of web gumshoes "breaking stories" about their archrivals based on what cousin Floyd heard two guys say to each other in the restroom at the Rotary Club. And every time we don't join in on their expose' we'll get told we're missing out on the big scoop with this cited as an example. The fact 90 percent of these kind of stories turn out to be either total BS, vastly exaggerated or poorly fleshed out ("I heard one of the linemen is on drugs") won't matter. Wonderful - just wonderful.

    This just proves what all beat writers know about fanboards: That 99 percent of the time they're full of crap but every once in a while something true shines through.

    That's why you still check things out, no matter how off-the-wall they may sound. Sometimes it's the truth.

    Of course, if this had been posted on SportsJournalists.com first we would have:

    1. slammed him for not citing a source;

    2. called him a fanboy looser for being an Aggie;

    3. his post would've been forever lost in the mists of time because Webby would've purged it in April for lack of bandwidth capacity.

    (I donated, dammit!)
