Because she's white and he's black. Honkeys never get a fair shake.

Perhaps because she didn't have a jury trial?

She was 17 when all this happened and 20 now, right? Was she charged as an adult or a minor? I'm too lazy to look it up myself.

Sending her to prison for up to 20 years is in the cards. Send her to a mental hospital bc she's obviously whack

This is going to set a precedent for cyber bullying. Will anyone who writes "go kill yourself" or "drink bleach" or any of the other horrible things kids say to each other these days be in a similar spot if it actually ends up happening? Obviously this girl's texts went well past any line, but it'll be interesting to see how cases like this are handled in the future.

This is a vastly different thing than that.

This girl was communicating with the kid during the suicide attempt, admonishing him to go through with it, ordering him to "Get back in the truck" when he tried to back out. They weren't internet insults, and this wasn't an unintended result, instead the entire purpose of her words was to actually make a person die.

Such a shame the kid couldn't turn off his phone. Or block her number.

No, I get it. She's a monster and the worst kind of human being. I couldn't care less whether she rots in prison or not. But if the judges and juries can starts convicting based on what teenagers say in texts, they should just convert schools to prisons. Start with the middle schools.
