Tax question...

I'm about to make two purchases and was wondering if anyone had any insight as to whether I could write them off on my taxes for business expenses.

    1) A new computer (at least a portion, perhaps)

    2) A GPS navigation system for my ride (I don't see why I couldn't write that off, but thought I'd check).

    Thanks for any input...

If you use the computer for business, you would write that off under Section 179.

Navigation system might be a little more dicey.

What if I have a work-issued laptop that's a piece of garbage? Would that throw a kink in my chances of being able to write it off if I got a new one?

You won't be able to write off the whole amount, unless you are going to use it entirely for business.

But you will be able to write off a certain percentage, as long as part of it is being used for work-related activities.
