This is the opening recently posted by Tampa, FWIW.

    Company: Tampa Tribune
    Position:
    Sports Design Team Leader
    Location:
    Tampa, Florida
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: Negotiable
    Ad Expires:
    February 8, 2008
    Job ID: 869366

    Description:
We're looking for some visual pop for a sports section that's blessed with space. We'd like a designer who is creative, well-versed in typography and willing to take chances. This person not only would be responsible for the look of our section but for coaching and developing our team of designers. He/she also would work closely with content editors, photographers and graphic artists. We are a converged newsroom, so Web design skills would be an asset. We have several big events coming to the area, including the Women's Final Four this year and the Super Bowl in 2009. Now is the time to shine.

Candidates must have at least five years' experience in page design at a medium- to large-sized daily newspaper, preferably on a sports desk. Supervisory experience is preferred but not necessary.

Contact Kim Pendery, Senior Editor/Multimedia Sports, at kpendery@tampatrib.com or (813)259-8406.

Hmmm ... they already have someone on staff perfectly suitable for this -- Mike Farkas.

    And, no, I'm not Mike.

When they say "blessed with space," they mean it.

Great place for a designer to spread their wings.

Mike sucks. Just kidding. He'd be great at the gig, but I don't know if he's interested/applying.
