Interesting story today, sounds like a good ol' newspaper war is brewing. Would the St. Pete Times really do that?

It'll be interesting to see if The Times fires back. That was a pretty pointed jab by their competitors across the bay.

Will Ms. Coats Twitter her announcement about once-a-week publication in February when they switch?

oh, of course not! the st. pete times invented ethics! they'd never do anything underhanded.

Why are the number of pages and stories the big sticking point? If all they have is briefs and just forcing their reporters to crank out work to have more, doesn't that defeat the point?

I don't live in the area, so I've never read a copy of either paper, only looked at stuff online.

Will the fight be at the St. Pete Forum?

Wow. I don't know if I've ever seen a by-lined story of this nature by an executive editor and president/publisher before.

Well, St. Pete has to respond in some way, right?

Yeah, pissing wars over page count are a little weak. Want to compare number of staffers, namely, ahem, college beat reporters?

I can't wait until papers start counting column inches.

Is the type of thing readers would respond to?
