Even if I didn't have a car payment, I'm not sure that'd qualify as me having "financial freedom." It's a car payment. Not a house payment.

    Win-win indeed.

Well that's a good counter argument to the Jeep.

Dr Q in those 7 years what was your annual repair expenditure to keep car running?

I'm 44 and drive one. Guys in midlife crisis get a sports car or a Harley (see Petrino, Bobby).

    It's a little mid-lifey.

If you know that going in, you're good.

If you're driving a Jeep in the city, it's definitely a mid-life crisis. But it sounds like you're in that mode right now. There's nothing wrong with it, unless you're casting aside real responsibility.

It's not an extra $25,000 for him, though. He's already got a car loan he's paying off. It's really one extra year of car payments (around $4,800) from the sound of it.

Last night, I drove behind a guy in a convertible Ferrari. He had a sweeping front comb-over and frosted tips. *That* was the most mid-lifey I've ever seen.

Hmm, my hair or a Ferrari, which would I prefer? That's a toss-up.

There's a difference between a guy in a mid-life crisis and a douchebag who got old.

I thought he was counting the $21,000 trade to pay off his current note.

If it's equity then he's a genius and he should be giving us advise.

But it's not an "extra" $25,000. If he doesn't get the Jeep, he's still going to be paying his $400 per month on the note he already owes. He's not going to be able to pocket that cash unless he trades in for a Schwinn.
