This happened in our area at a football game Friday night.

Team is down big as final minute approaches, but manages to drive down the field against the leading team's scrubs.

Anyway, after an incomplete pass in the end zone, a fight breaks out between two players. They are rolling around in the mud, punching each other.

They are both kicked out and each player is assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

    Here's the rub — they're teammates.

Their team is backed up 30 yards and ends up being shut out.

By state rule, they must sit out the next two games, meaning their high school careers are concluded.

Anyone ever see or hear of something like this at a high school game? It read like a scene straight out of one of the "Major League" sequels, where the heroes start fighting in the dugout and the umpire tosses the entire team.

Never heard of teammates fighting, although we did have two soccer players -- both seniors, FWIW -- get red carded AFTER their game was over tonight. It was in the region tourney and their team lost. Not sure what -- if anything -- will happen.

Almost exactly a decade ago next month a coach described to me how he had to bleach down the visitor's locker room after a playoff game because the team got in a brawl with one another after they lost. Blood freaking everywhere.

The same team was also accused of eavesdropping on the home team's headset signals using a Bearcat scanner in the same game, and I got (anecdotally from each side) the evidence.

    Classy bunch, that was.
