i've been hitting the gym hard lately, too. maybe for the past four months, but the last three months i've been strict on tracking what i do. i keep a little journal of what i do, what weight and how many reps and sets.

my normal routine is like 7 or so weight exercises (i do 15 reps, four sets), about 30 minutes of cardio and and usually 200 or so crunches.

but yeah, the arms are looking nice. so don't step to me.

very true, i've been told -- while being handed a bag of planters before a road trip -- that peanuts, cashews, etc., help prevent future viagra prescriptions.

just something to think about next time you are at the 7-11 trying to decide between a bag of cheetos and a bags of peanuts. avoid the honeyroasted variety, though.

now, i almost always buy the low-fat ice cream, the low fat wheat thins and diet coke.

I tried the gym thing 2-3 years ago. But it got to the point where I'd get up in the morning and think, "Oh, no, I've got to go to the gym."

So I went out and bought the treadmill. Because it would be silly of me to think, "Oh, no, I've got to go the living room."

And Idaho, I'm reminded of the old George Carlin line ... the best junk food ever is pistachios. Because all the ones you can't open, you put them in a pile for when you start getting fat.

oh yeah, anybody got good word on supplements?

i've wanted to incorporate some of that, but i don't know too much about it, past like protein shakes.

i'm curious specifically like all the metabolism stuff that's out there --is it worth it? what are some good ones? what about creatine?

Ephedra's bad news. Went on one cycle a couple of years ago and it screwed with my heart. No wonder everyone is banning that shit.

I just load on whey protein. I have a shake for breakfast instead of cereal (replacing carbs with protein) and one right after I work out. I use EAS' stuff. I think it's just called Pure Protein. Comes in one of those huge tubs.

Creatine will definitely give your muscles a boost, and it's fairly safe if used correctly. Men's Health did a great story a few months back about steroids ... I'll see if I can drag up a link.

creatine absolutely works except you have to train really hard and watch what your diet or you will put on bad weight. If you are lifting "heavy" you will see an almost immediate increased strength (20-30lbs higher bench). The other thing you'll need is a good tailor or large new clothes budget.

Supplements for the most part are overrated. I used to be on ZMA, after reading a Men's Health article, but found it to be a waste of 15 bucks a month. Really, you don't need anything past protein.

I bought a 5 pound tub of Optimum Nutrition double chocolate whey protein for 30 bucks. It lasts about three months, having a shake or two a day. Gives you 23 grams of protein a serving, which is about the best I've been able to find. It tastes good too, though I mix mine in milk. The ephedrine and similar type stuff is overrated for the most part. Creatine adds a lot of water weight to your muscles, which does make them bigger, but it also means you can't stop lifting.

21, I use 1% milk. Tastes like chocolate milk. To each their own I guess. I find it yummy, especially after trying to max out on the leg press.

I use the vanilla cream stuff and it doesn't really taste great with water. With skim milk, you get a few extra carbs, but you also get added calcium and other good stuff, like vitamins.

I mix frozen strawberries in with the protein powder for the breakfast shake.

Much of my weight gain took place after I started working nights at a daily about 10 years ago. I was also working at a convenience store at the same time and eating Little Debbies snack cakes a lot.
The diet is the hard part for me. Although I have been very consistent about the treadmill walking for the last three months (6 days a week, usually before I go to work, but sometimes afterwards) getting my diet in control is still kind of tough.

Small ... what's your average dinner like? More meats and vegatables, less potatos and pasta is the best way to go. Loading up on carbs at dinner isn't a good idea. That stuff just sits with you overnight and it can negate some of the workout.

On the Luna bars ... interesting. I'll have to check it out. Sure, they're marketed to women. But isn't Lean Cuisine, too? I buy those every once in a while ...
