So funds are getting a little tight, and I'm considering a second job to ease my financial burden a bit. I'm a desker, so my schedule is pretty steady. My initial instinct is substitute teaching since I could pretty much work when I want, and, if I felt so inclined, I could actually do that and work on the same day. I was just wondering if any of you have been in a similar situation, and, if so, what did you do for a second job?

Working desk means you're available during the day. Delivering pizza is much better than subbing, as long as you don't mind the mileage on your cars. Lunch shift on the weekends you can make some good tip money.

I worked two jobs for a year, from late '06 through most of '07. It was a wicked grind, but in the long run it was worth it.
I worked at a package store - personal mailboxes, shipping, etc. - every morning and at the newspaper every afternoon and evening.
I payed off all of my debt and capped it off by quitting BOTH jobs for a better ONE.

    Get certified to ref.

I have made $20 an hour blowing a whistle for 10 year old soccer. I called it stealing money. Plus, it will make you more well rounded as a writer by giving you a greater appreciation of the game.

Teach swimming lessons to home schooled kids.

You should be able to pull in better than $15 an hour doing this. You just need to get certified.

Anything that requires a little bit of training and skill is going to pay a lot better than just showing up and doing something.

What about tutoring students in English?
