That's actually the leader in the clubhouse right now.

Close to casinos for the gamblers, a big lake to play on, MTB and hiking trails and plenty of time for fly fishing on the Truckee River.

Tahoe is, in fact, one option.
And a decent one at that.
Some golf, some don't. The hard part is lugging the clubs through the airport.

We vacation in San Diego every 2-3 years. Aside from traveling to see family, the only place we vacation more often is Charleston.

Usually the San Diego trips are in combination with someplace else, so it's usually a few nights in a standard hotel. The one time we spent an extended time there, we stayed at this place before its renovation (when prices were lower):

The thing about this place is it's right on the cliffs at the ocean at the beginning of a very high-end but not touristy (and not busy) neighborhood. It's a few miles south of Mission Beach and less congested. But you can get a full one- or two-bedroom apartment with full kitchen, so you won't have to go to a restaurant for breakfast or lunch. It's not a chain, so it's not all that well known.

It's sort of at the intersection of a neighborhood with oceanfront mansions and another neighborhood of bungalows and nonconformist artsy types, surfers, hippies and inexpensive dining options. We could hear the waves crash all night.

    Breckenridge, Colorado.

I had a little college buddy reunion a few years back. There were only five of us, but we rented a house. We had a lot of fun.

The weather is great. We rode bikes. We did the alpine slide at the ski area. We ate. We drank. We sat in the hot tub. The weather was perfect (oh, I mentioned that).

Whatever you chose, I think it's best to find a place where you can rent a big house, rather than sprinkling people in hotel rooms. It's a lot more fun for a group. That way you can still be together when you're not doing something, and you can just hang and relax. The places where there are the most vacation house rentals are resort type areas, ski areas and beach areas. Go to http://www.vrbo.com.

We also did Tahoe for the previous reunion and that was good, but not as centrally located.

  5. Glacier National Park is outstanding, although it's a bit remote.

But you can't go wrong in Chicago or Tahoe, I'd think.

Myself and five college buddies are renting a condo next to a golf course in the North Woods of Wisconsin for four days this summer. We've never done it before. Can't wait.

I did go with another group one year farther north in Wisconsin, where we rented a house. I second BB's suggestion. That rocked.
