Summer Songs

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Christopher McCandless, Jun 3, 2008.

  1. The warm weather has come and I'm filling up my ipod with summer songs so wondering what the thoughts are:

    1. What will be the summer songs this year?

    2. What are the greatest summer songs ever?

I don't mean just songs that mention summer, but the driving along the beach, blaring from boomboxes songs that only seem right in summer.

Individual opinions may vary, but I always hear LFO's "Summertime Girls" on the radio.

"Crazy In Love" -- Beyonce featuring Jay Z.
"Soak Up The Sun" -- Sheryl Crow
"Walking On Sunshine" -- Katrina and the Waves
"Umbrella" -- Rihanna (though I prefer "Shut Up And Drive")
"Boys Of Summer" -- Don Henley

    Ding. Ding. Ding.

I will blast this song regardless of where I am, and it always feels like summer. Best song he ever did.

  7. Something Springsteen has to be there for me. Maybe a live version of Summertime Blues?

Born In The USA came out in June, 1984. That was ALL you heard that summer.

Then there was the summer of 1979, when all you would hear is My Sharona and Hell Is for Children. Life was good.

And "Let's Go" from the Cars' album Candy-O. Fuck, we wore that album out that summer. Along with Cheap Trick Live At Budokan, Hot Shots by Trooper and A Million Vacations by Toronto heroes Max Webster. Good, good times.

However if you're talking Springsteen summer/beach songs:
Sandy and Seaside Bar Song have to be on the list
    (Seaside Bar Song --
    )
A summertime Springsteen song that's perfect for driving down the highway with the windows open and the radio blaring: Born to Run
