When you say we should be doing more with less, does that mean you're going to start helping with production?

It seems the more we "innovate" the more our circulation drops. Why don't we go back to the old ways? Wouldn't that be truly innovative?

May not be relevant to your market, but this is the question I would pose to our suits.

"The paper to the north just cut half it's newsroom staff. The paper to the south just trimmed a quarter of its newsroom staff. Why don't we take advantage of this by telling the readers in our area that WE are the paper they can turn to for complete coverage of the area they will not get anywhere else? Of course, this will mean delaying the 55-60 layoffs coming on Monday, BUT WHY NOT AT LEAST TRY??????"

"Where are we going and why do you want us to get in those baskets?"

Since Bud is now Belgium's and India is doing some copy-editing for California papers, will Freedom of the Press even matter when newspapers are created on foreign soil by their eventual owners?

  12. Thanks for all the much-needed levity suggestions.

And while I didn't get an opportunity to raise any of these outstanding questions (I nodded off during the Q-and-A portion), I did learn that our company has developed a creative mission for the coming years that includes, among other mandates, the following brilliant nugget:

"We should identify what our customers want, and then give it to them."

Bet you stupid asses are sorry you never thought of that!
