Student sportswriter fired for plagiarism

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by Sunshine Scooter, Jul 13, 2007.

  1. we're not talking about a factual error or a misspelling or a typo

you get a second chance for mistakes

    this isn't an error

    it's intentionally stealing stuff.

if it were up to me, no second chances

The way that Henry Hecht insists on defending plariarism makes me think he's done it and been caught before. I can't fathom any other reason why anyone in this industry would defend people who give the entire profession black eyes.

  3. A second chance as a janitor or a mechanic or some other profession that doesn't rely on trust ...

  4. it seems there are a few people on this message board who enjoy taking a contrary opinion on everything

when it comes to this issue, it becomes preposterous

Bingo. End of discussion. In a world in which J schools are turning out more grads than the work force can absorb, guys taking shortcuts deserve to get hammered ASAP. It saves some daily from a Jayson Blair episode 10 years later.
