Principal could have made a statement over the PA system that he didn't appreciate and would not tolerate going against school policy, but he understood this was a rare case where they might be lax.
Addai being from LSU and Peyton's shadow looming, too.
    Principal overreacted.

The kid's a punk; principal is a dick. The end.

The principal could have exhibited more P.R. acumen and more provincialism at the same time by making a wink-wink exception in the case of an Addai jersey (for the LSU connection, as mentioned above). A Colts jersey linked to a Louisiana native who didn't play college ball in his home state, such as Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne? Hmm. No question he'd have had to pop a cap in the kid's ass.

    Fixed. :D

Something similiar to this happened years ago where a school had a Coca-Cola Day to celebrate that Coke was donating money to the school for a scoreboard, among other things.

The school had kids pose in Coke shirts in front of the scoreboard for a photo. One kid wore a trench coat, and when the picture was taken, opened it to reveal a Pepsi shirt. Kid got suspended.

I don't quite remember how it turned out, if the kid's suspension got overturned or not.

Fact is, the school is allowing for special treatment for fans of the Saints. If you're going to allow Saints fans to show their support, you should allow it for Colts fans.

An argument can be made that if that whole school wore Saints stuff and this one kid didn't that you'd be singling him out and making him feel uncomfortable.

When it was clear this kid wasn't going to participate in the Saints lovefest, the principle had two choices: Let him where what he wanted to, in the spirit of supporting your team, or make everyone wear their uniforms.

This guy chose the third, which essentially was being a douche.

    Bingo.

Public tax dollars should preclude the presence of a double standard. All too often, it doesn't work out the way it should.

I understand why a 17-year-old kid would have such loyalty to his team that he couldn't stomach the idea of wearing the other team's colors the week of the big game.

I don't understand why Principal David Putty, a grown man, would similarly carry his loyalty for the home team to such ridiculous lengths. Wonder if he sleeps with a Drew Brees poster above his headboard, too.

What I don't understand is how you can be surprised by an adult acting like that. Happens all the time.

  10. Oh, not surprised. Covered college sports long enough to not be surprised.

Old news ... Adults often live vicariously through their kids.
Some adults push their kids to stand up and be counted, after not having experienced such in THEIR adolescence.

No, it isn't. Kid could just as easily worn the school uniform and a Colts shirt underneath.
