The San Marcos Daily Record in San Marcos Texas is looking for stringers (contract writers) to help with local sports coverage for the 2011-12 season. We're looking for some one who would be willing to cover Wimberley High School football (always a strong program, 3A state semifinalists last season) along with Tuesday night volleyball. Also need writers to cover beats at Class 4A Buda-Hays and Lehman. Aside from the preps, there's chance to help cover some sports programs at Texas State University as well as a number of other local sports.
Experience always helps, but will be willing to help guide the right candidates. Great opportunity for college students in the San Marcos/Austin area looking to get into sports journalism. Applicants need to be able to work nights (particularly Tuesday and Friday nights) and be able to hit deadlines the same night.
Send resumes and cover letters to Sports Editor Randy Stevens at rstevens@sanmarcosrecord.com
