Stop Apologizing Already -- YOU DID MEAN IT

I see on ESPN.com that Marvin Lewis has apologized for the remarks he made on the radio the other day that insinuated that the Cincinnati cops are targeting his players based on race. All I've got to say on the subject is STOP IT.

If you say it, it is because you mean it. Don't come back 24 hours later after somebody has chewed you out and apologize.

Michael Vick isn't sorry he was involved in dog fights.

Mel Gibson isn't sorry he said bad things about Jews.

and Marvin Lewis really thinks the cops are targeting his players because they are black.

Do these people really think that the public is going to buy their lameass excuses? (Of course, people in my profession help to carry this process on so I guess I shouldn't be talking).

Because the only thing worse than someone apologizing without meaning it is not apologizing at all.

I'm with you; I hate the idea that the public apology has been reduced to noblesse oblige, a page from the "oops I fucked up" playbook, but imagine, for instance, how much shit we'd be hearing if say Imus came out and said "fuck you all, I don't take it back"?
