Stolen story idea -- what to do?

    It's happened to me several times. The best thing you can do is to go about your business and move forward.

    You can say it's luck and maybe some of it was, but not all of it. You make your own luck to an extent.

    Thanks to everyone for their opinions and advice.
    I emailed the editor of the magazine, who obviously told the lower-level editor to get back to me on this.
    His claim was that someone subsequent to my idea thought of the exact same idea. Now that you've stopped laughing, that's what he said. My response was something like, "And a bell didn't go off telling you that the idea had been offered to you before?"
    I've always had some great ideas, but rest assured, I won't be passing any along to these people any time soon, if ever.
