Great post, except you are dead wrong in this statement.
The "bigger name" caddies are seen (rightly or wrongly) even higher than a few of the lower rung players in the pecking order.

 

Williams makes like a million a year, which if he was a golfer would have him above the money-line cut.
Still doesn't change the fact he's an asshole...

 

Stevie's job: carry the fucking bag and STFU.
If Tiger had any balls at all, Williams is unemployed right now...but he likes having an asshole bully to do the dirty work for him.

He's there for only one reason: To be Tiger's bad cop with the fans with cameras.

 

Tiger needs his caddy to be an asshole. That way he doesn't have to risk having a meltdown if someone takes a picture or farts during his backswing. Then, after Williams beats said fan with Tiger's 9-iron, Tiger can release a statement saying, "Things got a little out of hand, but I've spoken to my caddy and he understands... Blah, blah, blah..."

 

Or New Zealand.
