Steve Hunt died on Aug. 27 at age 64. He died from a rare blood disorder known as Amyloidosis, which hastened Congestive Heart Failure.

Hunt went the distance in the newspaper world, beginning on the bottom as a copy boy at the Pasadena Star-News, and ending on top as the president and publisher of the Victorville Daily Press. Along the way he covered the Dodgers, the Olympics and just about every sport in Los Angeles.

He was a monster in prep coverage for the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and rose to sports editor in 1997. He moved into management and thrived as a managing editor until taking over as editor of the Victorville paper. He was named president and publisher two years ago and served in that role until two days before he died, when he was still in the office, taking care of business.

During his time on the Dodgers beat, he met a woman in Philadelphia who became his wife of 36 years. Luanne, family and friends said goodbye today during a Celebration of Life in Upland, CA.

Was saddened when I heard this. Met him many times on the SoCal sports beat, especially at high school events. RIP.
