Steve Fossett missing, presumed to have crashed plane

    It's possible Fossett's flight plan consisted of him telling whichever tower in charge of that area that he was planning on cruising around for a couple of hours before landing back at the same field. That could be why the search area is so large.

    I'm willing to concede that aviation records meant something when flying was in its pioneer stages, as with Lindy, or when supersonic was new, such as with Yeager.
    Not sure anyone cares much now, except other pilots.

    They have yet to find his plane. So he's missing, presumed dead.

    One of the things I found scary was that they found about a dozen plane crashes that hadn't been found before.
