I hear Katy Perry does music, and is available, too [/crossthread]

It all depends on your taste in music and range but these are always musts whenever I go through this process, which is once every several years.

    Johnny Cash
    Steve Earl
    Tragically Hip
    Ben Harper
Corb Lund may be right up your alley

Ben Harper would sing better than Drew Brees if he got to do more of his shows indoors.

This has been another crossthread. Thanks for reading.

Few albums get more frequently played in full than Ryan Adams "Heartbreaker" on my Ipod these days.

The Strokes' "Is This It" is/was a masterful album, maybe the best album of the 2000s. Punkish but relatable. Everyone should listen to it at least once.

If you dig DBT, archive.org has a pretty good selection of their live shows, as well as several other artists that can be downloaded and put into your iTunes.

But, as for recommendations now that I know you like DBT, I would check out:
    Ryan Bingham
    Hayes Carll
    Lucero
Of course, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
    Robert Earl Keen
    James McMurtry
Blue Mountain (local Oxford band, but I think they are on iTunes, and are really good)
Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo — stretch into Wilco possibly
    Old 97s
Ryan Adams (as mentioned before, also Whiskeytown)
Reckless Kelly has some good stuff as well
    Band of Heathens

I'm sure more will come to me. Also, Cooley did a couple of solo shows recently and they are floating around. Shoot me a PM if you can't find them. They are fantastic.

I keep meaning to check out McMurtry. I'll have to do that tonight.

I'm still rooted in the late 80's/early 90's when I was discovering a lot of music so here goes:

    Ten - Pearl Jam
    Dirt - Alice In Chains
    Doggystyle - Snoop
    Bonnie Rait - Road Tested
Lyle Lovett - Live in Texas
    Biggie - Life After Death
    Judgement Night Sdtk
    Singles Sdtk
Melrose Place Sdtk (I'm not kidding, it's really good)
    No More Tears - Ozzie

    Just to name a few.

I'm currently putting together my iTunes music collection.

I've been checking CDs out from the library to do it. Free as can be.

This entire thread showcases how pointless it is to ask anyone whose musical tastes you're not familiar with to recommend music. Also, that Metallica is sweet.
