Kinda got this idea from James Mirtle's hockey blog so I thought, "Let's have an SportsJournalists.com contest" but with money on the table.

Submit your haiku on the Stanley Cup Final and the best one will win a $50.00 Amazon.com gift certificate courtesy of, well, HC & me.

    Here are the rules:

    1) It has to be a standard haiku, i.e. 17 syllables, three lines, broken down 5-7-5.

    2) It has to relate to the Penguins/Wings Stanley Cup Final.

    3) You may submit up to five entries but they all have to be on one post. In the case of multiple posts, only the first one will be considered

Edit: 3a). You may edit your entries as often as you like. Judging will take place after the closing date.

    4) Contest closes midnight EST Friday, May 30.

    5) Winner agrees to PM me their e-mail address; otherwise, no prize.

    6) Decision of the judges (me, HC) is final.

    7) We will not respond to any PM's or e-mails about our decision.

And in the spirit of the thing, here's mine

    Wings are flying high
Penguins can't get off the ground
    Crosby steals the show

Go at it ladies & gentlemen.

    Detroit flapped its Wings
    NHL history changed.
    Someone watched the Pens!

    Fly, octopus, fly.
Land in front of Fleury's crease.
    Hat trick for Pavel!

    Lions and Tigers,
OHHHHH MYYYYYYYY GOD. But the Red Wings!
    Their Cup runneth o'er.

    Sidney Crobsy will
BEAT THEM LIKE A RENTED MULE
    Over and over.

    Where's Scotty Bowman?
On the Wings' side? On the Pens'?
    Watching from his den.

    Hockeybeat struggles,
    Counting is not his forte.
    Poor, poor hockeybeat.

    What's his punishment?
    the overused "skate to box,
    shame for two minutes."

    I don't get hockey,
    can only identify
    Crosby and Malkin.

    Flash,
    Read the rules.

You can have five entries but they have to be on one post.

I'm going to be a dickhead about this, OK? :)

    Crosby and Malkin
    Lidstrom, Datsyuk and Osgood
    First to four will win

    Penguins' youth movement
    Wings' experience and depth
    You choose the winner

    Hossa deal worked out
    Other young Pens still scoring
    Enough to beat Wings?

    Mellon versus Joe
    Igloo versus Hockeytown
    Wings' home ice enough?

    How 'bout Sid The Kid?
Can he and young teammates pull
    Wind from beneath Wings?

That one wasn't meant to count. But if I think of more, I'll edit my first post.
