Blue White Illustrated, the source for in-depth Penn State football coverage, is looking for a full-time recruiting reporter. BWI is comprised of both a magazine and a Web site that is part of the Rivals.com network. In our publication, we exclusively cover Penn State athletics and specialize in football and football recruiting. As a recruiting analyst for BWI, you will need to be fearless. As a business with a small staff, it is essential for each member to take on varying tasks for the publication to succeed. This will include (but is not limited to): writing daily recruiting updates, feature stories, game stories, news stories, working sources, doing fact checking, editing stories, page layout in Quark, and Web production.

The main responsibility will involve calling, interviewing, and reporting on football recruits. Every year, there are 1,300 high school students who go on to play Division I college football. It will be your job to identify the roughly 20 players that will come to Happy Valley to play for the Nittany Lions. This is not easy. You will absolutely need to work the phone to make this happen. From calling the players themselves to high school coaches to digging up phone numbers and addresses, this is a consuming task. Building relationships with these kids is a must and through persistence and the right attitude, you can make it happen.

We will be looking for candidates with the following traits:

-A working knowledge of Penn State football and an understanding of football recruiting and what it entails.

-Previous writing experience and a solid understanding of AP Style.

-Some HTML and Quark experience is a plus, but not essential, as long as you can pick things up quickly.

-An open schedule, especially at night for calling recruits. Stories can and do come together at all hours.

-Most importantly, you must have an intense interest in college football recruiting, specifically at Penn State. There will be opportunities to cover the team as well throughout the year, but this position will focus intently on the recruiting end of the football program.

We are looking for this position to be filled immediately.
