  1. So, our missile-defense system works like a charm as long as the enemy doesn't attack if it's cloudy.

Or, the fact that this thing costs $60 million per missile and is somehow being viewed by several countries as a hostile act, means they want to make sure they hit the damn thing and get this right the first time.
Somehow, if an actual ICBM with a nuclear warhead strapped to it were heading our way, I doubt they'd wait.

Wait, China's already done this? Then why the fuck are we trying to do it for 60 mil? Outsource, people! Have we learned nothing? China will shoot down our satellite for 10 million, 15 tops.

I also doubt they'd hit anything.

We tried to give to to Blackwater, but they started blasting everything in the sky that moved.

Where do you think the craters on the moon came from?

Almost didn't matter if Star Wars worked, or if Regan though it would work -- or didn't think it would work.
The important thing is that Gorbochov thought it would work.

I've heard this before, but couldn't much more of the Soviet Union's demise be attributed to the resources pumped into Vietnam and Afghanistan?

  9. Actually, if you read Frances FitzGerald's defintive work on the subject, Gorbachev's scientists told him it wouldn't work. Gorbachev didn't think it would work, either. Glasnost and perestroika, St. Ronnie's acolytes notwithstanding, were responses to the crumbling Soviet society and the dry rot that collapsed the Soviet economy.
And, even if what hondo wrote were true, the Soviet Union collapsed almost 20 years ago. Can't we stop pouring money down the rathole now?

The problem is, FB, your analysis runs contrary to the sacred notion that Reagan singlehandedly destroye Communism.
