St. Pete Times avoids layoffs

    Enough people took the buyout. Nevertheless, some good ones are leaving the business.

    Always love the "for the foreseeable future" line in the CEO memo about avoiding layoffs.

    Like many other papers, the Times took buyouts from a helluva lot of talented people. Chris Sherman was a kick-ass food critic.

    For the foreseeable future = three months or when the next quarterly report comes out, at least by my calculations.

    It's all bullshit!
    Our publisher was asked about buyouts a couple of months ago. He gave the "foreseeable future" line.
    Little did we know the foreseeable future was just two weeks away.

    But par for the course these days. We all know newspapers are hurting. I just wish there was more honesty coming down from on high.

    We all know things are going to shit. All we ask is that management is honest with us.
